Pros & Cons

  • The culture - WSP has an empowering and supportive culture, I have such a great team who care about me, personally and professionally, and are invested in my development. I am trusted and given space to learn and grow.
  • Lots of 'extracurricular' Opportunities. You can be as involved as you wish and can really benefit.
  • Commitment to Reconciliation, Work flexibility, Caring about Mental Health.
  • The work I have been given. I get to work across numerous projects throughout Australia. I get to work on an area which I am passionate about.
  • Working flexibility and the support I get from people around me.
  • The remuneration could be a bit better
  • A formal graduate rotation program has not been established in the Australian business. The graduate experience is very much based on your team leaders and how far they are willing to go to accommodate your growth.
  • Due to recent rebranding, WSP has one of the weakest publicity in WA communications (schools and general public - non engineering background). Weak graduate program presence, poor branding in WA Universities and no presence among undergraduates, no Graduate Rotation Schemes. Also, the graduate program is overshadowed by Pathways.
  • For a while now we have had issues with not giving clients what they want, and instead giving them what we think they should want. This has resulted in us receiving low client recommendation scores, especially this quarter.
  • Typical large company bureaucracy, sluggish IT systems

WSP has a Diversity and Inclusion society who are dedicated to ensuring that WSP staff feel comfortable. WSP has had a steady rate of increased female employees and are continuing to actively recruit females in the business. In my short time here, I have seen two female employees successfully complete maternity leave who have been retained and are back happily working.

Office Work Environment
The office space is awesome. Employees are not assigned desks so are able to sit wherever they like (close to the team's general designated area). The facilities are all well maintained and the office is always super clean and lively. The dress code is general business attire on all days except for casual Friday.

Recruitment
8.3
Recruitment
I started as an intern so I was asked why I studied engineering, what subjects I enjoyed etc., what I would like to work with. From other interviews I've had companies actually want you to demonstrate that you are an ok person and can talk and communicate well and will suit their team. Companies want these soft skills over technical or academic skills. It is really good to be able to speak about 'extra-curricular activities’.
