Gender Equality at Kapitol Group

Kapitol Group is committed to attracting and retaining women at both Kapitol Group, and in the construction industry as a whole.

The industry is currently around 13% female and we are passionate about helping to create a safe and comfortable environment for women, as well as to interest women in studying and working in the industry.  Here are some of the ways we do this:

  • We work closely with our site teams and subcontractors to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment for women on site.
  • All staff and subcontractors are trained via induction on our commitments and zero tolerance approach to any behaviours that may adversely impact women.
  • We monitor our salaries to ensure people are paid equally in similar roles, regardless of gender (or any other personal characteristic for that matter), and we have submitted our Workplace Gender and Equality Agency report to gain accreditation for our salary equality.
  • We have 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers and 2 weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • Our TogetHER group allows our female team members to support each other. We conduct regular events, such as Champainting, and run an annual survey and workshop to discuss issues for women in the workplace.
  • All female staff are offered a membership with the Women in Design and Construction group (WIDAC) and we attend events and utilise resources such as their Mentoring Program.
  • In 2022, we are rolling out a series of educational events at high schools around Victoria to attract female students to study and work in the industry. We aim to run 5 of these sessions every year. These sessions give female students an insight into the industry to hopefully break the stereotypes surrounding the industry being ‘for men’.
  • We sponsor a Scholarship with RMIT that supports a Construction Management student from an under-represented group. In 2022, this scholarship has been won by a female student, which provides both financial assistance, as well as a Cadetship to gain valuable industry experience.
