The Kent story

Our story began as a small family business in Ireland over a century ago. Fast forward 100 years and we are now tackling the toughest challenge of our lifetime.

1919

We began as a small electrical and instrumentation business known as MF Kent. Established by Michael Francis Kent we were involved in the electrification of rural Ireland.

1963

Frank Kent, Michael's son, joined M.F Kent & Co., helping the business grow into a world-leading electrical and instrumentation specialist in the energy and industrial sectors over the next 25 years.

1989

Frank Kent retires and sold M.F. Kent & Co to the management team, which later went on to be known as Kentz.

1994-2011

Kentz rapidly became a respected engineering and construction business serving clients primarily in the oil and gas, petrochemical and mining and metals sectors. It grew to work across 30 countries with expertise delivered through 14,500 dedicated employees. It was listed on the AIM market in 2008 and on the London Stock Exchange in 2011.

1994 - 2015

Kentech became a trusted electrical and instrumentation specialist primarily working in the oil and gas and industrial sectors in 17 countries with 4,000 dedicated employees. Sarah Kent became CEO and was responsible for the growth of the business.

2015

In 2015, Kentech receives investment from Bluewater, the leading global energy investment firm, which became the majority shareholder.

2021

Kentech announces the acquisition of SNC-Lavalin's Oil & Gas business. This brings together the expertise of Kentech, SNC-Lavalin Oil & Gas and their previous acquisitions of the former Atkins Oil & Gas, Kentz and Houston Offshore Engineering. The acquisition spawns the birth of Kent.

We design, build and maintain the assets that power the world for today and make it future-ready for tomorrow. The trust that our clients have put in us over the last 100 years has given us the energy to deliver. And now, we’re taking that to a new level of capability to drive the energy solutions of the future. From consulting to design, build, commissioning and startup through to maintenance and decommissioning. At Kent, it is our ambition to be the global leader in integrated energy services. Driven by sustainability and innovation. We’re faster, better and ready to go in more locations and across more disciplines than ever before.

Adding value to some of the world’s largest projects means we’re often welcoming hundreds of new people into our team every month. But we don’t want anyone to get lost in the crowd. We’re committed to becoming a learning organization. That means ensuring that every single person uses their time with us to gain valuable experience and skills for their future.

We employ and empower the best. People who know their potential and are not afraid to use it. We know that together, we’re far more than the sum of our parts. So, we celebrate people who want to grow and develop as we work together on some of the largest projects on the energy world stage.

As engineers and scientists, we understand the importance of data to demonstrate our progress against our goals. Our sustainability strategy isn’t just an initiative with a shelf life. It is a fundamental shift in the way we live and work. But there is an intentional plan behind it and we are committed to showing our progress on that plan.

The initial strategy has a scope of three years with annual reviews to ensure we are on track to deliver on our ambitions. 2022 is our first year of capturing data to set us on a path forward and we will disclose this data at the end of the year. Data and disclosure are vital to building trust with our stakeholders to ensure that our customers, our people, and the communities surrounding our operations can hold us to account for how we operate and how we are performing against our targets.

Our sustainability journey is being overseen at the highest level within our organization by our Board and Executive Committee. We are establishing a board-level Sustainability Committee to enhance our governance and keep us on track with our goals. We are also building a Sustainability network, made up of specialists within each of our pillars to drive the practices throughout our business.
