Career Prospects at City of Gold Coast

It's hard at council as you need to apply for the role with higher level.

I have already been promoted

I have found that there is a bit of a gap between a graduate and entry level position within the current department I am working in. However, I know there are roles in other finance departments which I could apply for and work my way towards being a management accountant within the City.

There is lots of career opportunities at the City. There is opportunity for high duties when someone is on annual leave, there is also lots of opportunities for secondments.

There is always room for growth here!

Within my department/ sector of Screen there are very limited opportunities as the team is very small. We are currently undergoing a large restructure so the outcome of that may lead to further opportunities. It is very up in the air. With that said, the knowledge and experience I have learned and gained from this role has set me up well for other opportunities externally from my company if there are not internal ones available.

At present, I am uncertain of the actual potential ability to extend my contract due to potential budgetary constraints or organisational goals. However, I am currently intending on getting some experience in another relevant department which may increase prospects of further career progression opportunities.

I Cant say I know much about this as I have just started. However, there are many internals jobs being offered which can assist in getting higher positions if desired.

There isn't a set opportunity for you beyond the graduate program, so it feels like the career progression is not really there unless you create a connection with someone else within the workplace and get lucky enough for an opportunity to open up. As the organisation tends to retain people, with many being here for 10+ years, these opportunities are limited.
