Job Description

Come and join the Western Sydney Airport team delivering Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, the lynchpin of the extraordinary transformation currently underway to develop Sydney’s third city and Aerotropolis.

One of the largest infrastructure projects underway in Australia, Western Sydney International will open to international, domestic, and air cargo services in late 2026 and will eventually grow to be one of Australia’s biggest gateways to the world.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the First Nations Engagement Manager, this newly created position will support, coordinate and deliver a range of communication and engagement activities, focused on maximizing the opportunities and outcomes for First Nations people in Western Sydney and the broader Sydney region. This position will support the achievement of key strategic initiatives to positively contribute to Australia’s reconciliation journey and support Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport’s commitment to economic prosperity.

Your role will be responsible for:

  • Champion Western Sydney Airport’s contribution to developing opportunities and positive socio-economic impact on First Nations communities

  • Work across the business to build relationships and trust to influence positive outcomes for job creation, skills, and opportunities for First Nations people.
  • Contribute to WSA’s First Nations community engagement and involvement capacity

  • Support the strategy implementation to ensure Western Sydney Airport has positive relationships with First Nations stakeholders and communities.
  • Strategic partnerships

  • Assist the First Nations Engagement Manager in recommending and delivering opportunities for strategic partnerships with First Nations community organizations that support WSA’s organizational objectives and broader First Nations engagement strategies. ✓
  • Support the Community Engagement teams (Airport Construction and Social Impact), alongside the First Nations Engagement Manager, to develop and support partnerships, translating them into tangible positive outcomes for the First Nations community.
  • Social license

  • Contribute to and support the delivery of Western Sydney Airport’s social license through authentic and trustworthy engagement, fostering positive relationships, and creating a network of advocates for the project.
  • Build and develop relationships

  • Assist the First Nations Engagement Manager in working collaboratively to ensure the First Nations community partnership approach is consistent and WSA can capitalize on opportunities that benefit the community whilst proactively mitigating risks.
  • Support the establishment of strong working relationships with community leaders across Western Sydney, under the guidance of the First Nations Engagement Manager.
  • Build and maintain positive, cooperative, and productive relationships with WSA internal stakeholders and inspire team members to become involved in First Nations engagement and cultural celebration opportunities.
  • Content and communication

  • Support the First Nations Engagement Manager in collaborating across Corporate Affairs, Marketing, and Brand teams to assist in the development of brand-aligned content and communications collateral to support positive First Nations engagement outcomes and communicate WSA’s commitment to positive social impacts for the First Nations community.
  • Experience Centre

  • Support the inclusion of First Nations cultural heritage in content, activations, and exhibitions at the Western Sydney International Experience Centre (and in the future the Airport terminal and facilities).
  • Western Sydney Airport First Nations Engagement Master Plan

  • Assist the First Nations Engagement Manager in the evolution and development of the WSA First Nations Engagement Master Plan, develop evaluation tools to report against progress, and demonstrate a return on investment, including community attitudes and perceptions.
  • Innovation

  • Support the development of new tools, processes, and frameworks to drive improved outcomes and greater efficiency in the delivery of First Nations engagement programs.
  • Build culture

  • Contribute to the development of WSA culture and values to support both the vision and the development of customer-focused strategies, programs, and initiatives.

About You

We’d like to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent relevant experience in community engagement and communications, or other relevant disciplines such as First Nations education or social programs.
  • Strong cultural connection and demonstrated passion for actively promoting First Nations People.
  • Demonstrated ability to network with diverse First Nations stakeholders and community groups.
  • Strong administration skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written, oral and presentation communications skills
  • Flexibility and ability to change, including working effectively independently and in a team.
  • Excellent skills and experience building trusted, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability and a keen sense of initiative by being a self-starter, with a proactive approach to tasks and accountabilities.
  • Effective organizational skills including planning, aligning, situational adaptability/change, and ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness for required out-of-hours work, including some weekends.
  • White card (or willingness to obtain).
