Your role

Reporting to the Head of Media & Public Affairs, as Media Advisor at UNICEF Australia, you will join a team of communication specialists to assist in implementing UNICEF's media strategy and responding to media and public affairs opportunities. The role works within a small high-performing senior media team and requires close collaboration with the brand, digital, fundraising, and advocacy teams to help support important humanitarian advocacy projects with both local and global impact.

Your day will include:

  • Assisting with the implementation of a comprehensive media and public affairs strategy supporting brand and reputation growth in Australia
  • Conducting research and responding to media with written and visual material that advances UNICEF Australia’s campaigns and priority issues
  • Supporting the media team in the response to sudden onset international humanitarian emergencies in a heightened environment
  • Compiling and analysing media monitoring
  • Packaging and distributing media materials across all medians to ensure media are best supported in their coverage of UNICEF
  • Collaborating with external and internal stakeholders to drive creative thinking around maximising media coverage
  • Providing co-ordination support in advance of media field visits 
  • Liaising with international counterparts on research, data and media materials to support their work and reporting with an Australian lens

About you

Here's what UNICEF is looking for in this role:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Communications or other relevant area of study, or equivalent working experience 
  • Previous experience in a metropolitan newspaper or television and/or radio news service and communications
  • Knowledge of the Australian broadcast and digital news and media landscape with contacts across a range of publishers and outlets
  • Understanding of, or interest in, international development issues, world affairs, current events
  • Advanced writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to write for multiple platforms and audiences
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours to respond to requests from national media and international colleagues where needed
  • A commitment to the work and values of UNICEF Australia
