Your role

The Tesla Energy Projects team is responsible for the successful deployment and management of Tesla’s cutting-edge Energy Systems; Powerwall, Powerpack, and Megapack. Working with internal engineering teams and external partners, the Applications Engineering team ensures the successful deployment of these products into new applications, from initial validation through productization, and assists with product issues during operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support developing software for autonomous Utility Power Plant controllers (Industrial)
  • Build Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for Industrial BESS plants.
  • Define, review and refine device interfaces using industrial protocols such as Modbus and DNP3.
  • Develop internal software tools and dashboards for the Service Engineering and Field Service Team.
  • Collate fleet data and create analytical tables or dashboards for tracking and reporting.
  • Determine the root cause of product field failures by working with the field team and engineering, software/firmware teams, and drive improvements through design, software/firmware, or manufacturing changes.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to identify the cause of the outage and work to restore operation as quickly as possible.
  • Provide support on escalated customer cases in order to minimize system downtime.

About you

Here’s what we are looking for in this role:

  • Currently working towards a degree in a relevant program such as Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering Physics
  • A passion for sustainable energy
  • A bias for action
  • High proficiency in at least 1 programming language (Ideally Python or Golang)
  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive while solving very challenging problems
  • Understanding of electromechanical system fundamentals and associated dynamics
  • Proficiency in making basic electrical measurements with a multimeter
  • Ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues in TCP/IP networks
  • Ability to run lab tests, interpret data and draw conclusions about system performance
  • This role is full-time and for a 6-month contract

Desired Competencies

  • Ability to diagnose issues with electrical systems
  • Experience with designing and installing electrical wiring in a lab environment
  • Familiarity with Linux servers & bash/shell scripting
  • Experience using Python or equivalent for data analysis on very large databases
