An exciting opportunity to be an intern for one of the leading industry suppliers of homeware, kitchenware, gifting and more. Our client is focused on being the first to market to deliver on-trend, sophisticated and fashion-first ranges through their extensive background in predicting trends and working innovatively with shape, colour, pattern, and design. 

As a Buying Assistant Intern, you will have a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the fast-paced retail industry. During your placement, you will get to work with experienced professionals who will be there to support you every step of the way whilst you learn the working ways of the workplace, build your confidence in applying your theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and expand your network and skillset. 

If you are a recent graduate or currently enrolled in either Business, Finance, Commerce or Accounting, or a Fashion Business/Fashion Merchandising course, then an internship working in the retail buying department could be your ‘in’ to an exciting career. 

Within the internship, you will learn key responsibilities for Retail Buying, such as:

  • Using market research to identify emerging trends and competitor activity
  • How to negotiate terms with suppliers
  • Analysing sales and inventory data to impact decisions
  • Working collectively within the product team
  • The importance of collaborating with cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled, or are a recent graduate of a relevant degree (e.g., Business, Supply Chain Management, Marketing).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced team environment.

How does it work?

During the preparation stage of the program, we will discuss your career aspirations and enrol you onto the online Numensa Academy where you can access our Kickstarting Your Career Toolkit™️  work on developing your personal brand and learn valuable interview techniques.  We will then match you with a host company that meets your career needs.

You will then undertake a 12-week guided internship and will have the support of a dedicated Careers Consultant.

Please note:   This internship is available through the Numensa Internship Program and fees are charged for our services.  There are two levels of program, these are:

  • Standard program - $1,990 (inc GST)
    • Preparation fee $795
    • Placement fee $1,195
  • Premium program - $2,490 (inc GST)
    • Preparation fee $1,295
    • Placement fee $1,195
