We are seeking an enthusiastic project officer to assist with the delivery of activities associated with reef and island conservation (and the species these habitats support), intervention and management components of the Australian and Queensland government’s Reef Joint Field Management Program in relation to the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. The position has a team focus, providing support across the Reef Conservation Actions work program.

Non-ongoing contract to 30/06/2023 however a merit pool may be created to fill the position permanently should it become vacant in the next 18 months.

Duties

  1. Provide project support services to key Reef Conservation Actions projects, including drafting and reviewing of project documentation, collating and synthesising scientific and other information for project reporting requirements, and assisting with contract and procurement processes.
  2. Develop and update Reef Conservation Actions project communication products, including webpages, public moorings maps, project case studies and newsletter articles.
  3. Assist with duties to support the summer and cyclone season reef health and impacts management, including collating and summarising scientific information from multiple sources.
  4. Deliver a high standard of client service through effective communication, consultation and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

As an APS employee you may be reassigned to a different set of duties at the same classification level at the discretion of the agency head (CEO), taking account of operational requirements in the agency.

Eligibility requirements & qualifications

Applicants must:

  1. be an Australian citizen at time of applying for position,
  2. be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, failure to do so will result in termination of employment.

Desirable qualifications or equivalent experience

  • Project management and reporting experience
  • Degree level qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in the natural sciences and/or natural resource management or other relevant field.
