About Forestry Corporation of NSW

Forestry Corporation is looking for graduates in disciplines including forestry, agriculture, environmental science, and natural resources who have completed an Undergraduate or Post Graduate Program in the last 18 months or who will be completing their studies this year.

During the two-year program, graduates will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist with planning the future of some of our 2 million hectares of native and plantation forests
  • Obtain nationally accredited qualifications in firefighting and protect our forest and regional communities from bushfires.
  • Contribute to tomorrow’s homes and the nation’s infrastructure through sustainable harvesting of renewable timber resources and gain an understanding of business management and financial reporting.
  • Understand the land management facets that underpin our forest management like pest and weed control, Aboriginal partnerships and tourism and show you care for our forests and their future.

What we can offer:

  • Permanent role – starting with a two-year Graduate Program involving several structured rotations within our softwoods plantation divisions (SPD).
  • Opportunity to immerse yourself in a challenging and stimulating work environment.
  • Competitive remuneration (starting at $70,724 base salary) and great conditions of employment including flexible work, professional development, an employee assistance program,  discounted gym memberships and the opportunity for intra-state travel.
  • Building blocks to develop a long-term career in forestry.
  • Work in diverse teams that champion inclusion and foster a culture of giving back.

About the program:

Our two-year Graduate Program will consist of on-the-job learning, mentoring, exposure to senior leaders and an active support network that will accelerate your career towards becoming one of our next operational leaders.

The rotations will provide exposure to a range of roles within our Softwood Plantation Division to build your knowledge and give you a deep understanding of the technical aspects of forestry roles. Each graduate will experience diverse work programs and workplaces,  supported throughout by a dedicated learning and development pathway.

Ideally, you will start as part of our seasonal firefighting crew in late November 2022 with nationally accredited training provided.

Graduate roles could be based at either Tumut or Bathurst with opportunities also to travel to other locations on short-term assignments.

During our two-year Graduate Program, we will work with you to enhance your professional development and consider your future career opportunities. After the program, we will work proactively with you to identify suitable positions within Forestry Corporation.

What we are looking for:

  • A passion and strong interest in the natural environment  and/or  primary production
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as working independently when required
  • Enjoy challenges, have problem-solving skills and an innovative  mindset
  • Great communication and people skills to build collaborative and long-term relationships with stakeholders
  • A willingness to ‘roll up your sleeves and get involved and enjoy  seeing the outcomes of your effort
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise  multiple tasks
  • A growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning and personal development
  • Commitment to our company values of wellbeing, respect, integrity, and innovation
  • People who enjoy living in regional NSW communities and plan to make them your home long-term

How to apply

Applicants should apply online or via our careers page. Your application should include your CV, Academic Transcript (unofficial is acceptable) and Right-To-Work documents (Australian Passport or Birth Certificate/Photo ID).

Important information for applicants:

During the selection process, you will be required to participate in a  range of assessment activities to help us evaluate your suitability for our Graduate Program.

At Forestry Corporation, the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, our contractors and our communities is the highest priority, which is why successful candidates will also be required to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status or medical exemption and satisfactorily complete a Drug and Alcohol screening, Medical Assessment, and fitness assessment for firefighting.

When circumstances require it, firefighting is an essential element of the role. Accordingly, the successful candidate(s) must be fit to perform firefighting activities, which may include working in smoky conditions and the ability to be physically active in uneven or steep terrain. A pre-employment medical assessment may preclude applicants that are unable to meet the inherent requirements of the role due to high-risk conditions for example active asthma or heart conditions in line with AFAC guidelines.

To be eligible for employment you must be an Australian Citizen, a  permanent resident of Australia, a New Zealand citizen with a current NZ Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia. If you currently hold a temporary visa that allows you to live and work in Australia, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.

At Forestry Corporation, we strive to always lead with our values and promote a diverse and inclusive workplace.  We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  We offer a variety of  Flexible Working Arrangements enabling our employees to develop their potential and bring their authentic selves to work.
