Your role

Evolution Mining's 12-week paid vacation program aims to attract, develop, and retain technical professionals in the mining industry. The program offers meaningful, valuable work experience, key networking opportunities, and professional development. The program is designed to give you an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned throughout your studies, as well as provide you with a comprehensive understanding of our mining operations, safety protocols, and sustainable practices.

About you

Evolution Mining offers several roles that fit the nature of the study. Here are the following requirements needed for each role:

Mining Engineer

The Mining Engineering team at Evolution has responsibility for the design, planning, monitoring and reporting of mine production and coordination of activities to ensure compliance with the plan, procedures and standards.

  • Applicants must be working towards completing an undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering, Science (Mining) or Engineering Science (Mining Engineering) or similar to be eligible.

Geotechnical Engineer

Geotechnical Engineers at Evolution undertake a wide range of activities, including data collection for geotechnical models, design and analysis of the open pit and underground excavations, monitoring and risk assessment whilst striving to produce safe, practical and economic designs. Graduate Geotechnical Engineers will gain additional exposure by working with key functions including Mining Engineering, Geology, Surveying and TSF (Tailings Storage Facility).

  • Applications must be in their 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year of a Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering degree, or a Geology degree combined with relevant Geomechanics studies (Master or Graduate Diploma) or similar degree to be eligible.

Health, Safety, & Environment

The Environmental and Sustainability function at Evolution works with the operations teams to provide a safe working environment, reduce risk, and protect the environment. Through the implementation of Health & Safety systems and processes, the team works to reduce workplace injury rates. The Health & Safety team must also monitor changes to mining regulations and ensure legal compliance.

  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or Penultimate year of a relevant Bachelor of Science - Environmental, or Health and/or Safety degree.

Surveying

A Mine Surveyor provides timely and accurate survey support for the mine operations daily and ensures all routine surveying tasks are carried out. Typical duties would involve the set out of planned drilling, drill areas and excavations, ore/waste delineation and mark-ups, weekly stockpile volume updates and end of monthly surveys, maintenance of all survey and monitoring equipment, providing the mining team with accurate data for the weekly and monthly mine plan, survey data integration with the Mine dispatch system, maintain and validate the survey database, and surface prism monitoring.

  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year of a surveying, mapping, engineering or relevant undergraduate degree.

Asset Management - Mechanical & Electrical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineering team at Evolution has responsibility for the reliability, asset management and continuous improvement of the process plant and associated infrastructure. They are responsible for ensuring the mechanical fixed plant is fit for purpose and safe for use in accordance with applicable laws and standards.

  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year of a Mechanical Engineering or similar degree to be eligible.

The Electrical Engineering team at Evolution has the responsibility to provide technical advice, engineered designs, condition monitoring and solutions to support the operations and maintenance departments to increase plant reliability, performance, safety, and cost efficiency.

  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year of an Electrical Engineering or similar degree to be eligible.

Metallurgy

Metallurgists at Evolution are responsible for ensuring that key plant operating parameters remain within target and are accurately reported. They also monitor and ensure that consumption of process consumables remains in line with budget and they carry out metallurgical test work and trials that are aimed at improving gold recovery, processing efficiencies and costs.

  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or penultimate year of a Metallurgy, Metallurgy Engineering, Engineering (Physical Metallurgy), Engineering (Process Metallurgy), Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a similar degree to be eligible.

Information Technology (IT)

The IT function at Evolution will provide the vacation student with exposure to Windows operating systems 10/server, active directory, Physical and WiFi networks, and Type 1 & 2 Hypervisors

  • Applicants must be working towards completing an undergraduate degree in IT, Computer Science, or a similar discipline to be eligible.

Hiring Process:

  1. If you are successful with your initial application, Evolution Mining will conduct a video screen to get to know you and find out more about your motivations and aspirations.
  2. If you progress through this stage, you will be invited to complete some testing and to attend their assessment centre so Evolution Mining can get to know you better - this is also a chance to meet some of the Evolution Mining team.
  3. Finally, you will attend a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager/s for the role and be taken on a site visit if required. If you are successful through this stage, you will be required to complete pre-employment checks before an offer can be made for a program.
