About the role

Our Markets business unit is responsible for the delivery of safe, reliable and cost-effective energy to our customers, optimising the value of the asset (power station) portfolio, and executing trades. In this twelve (12) month full time contract you will immerse yourself working in the Analysis team and being supported and mentored by Lead Analysts and other team members, the Graduate Analyst will gain exposure to the wider Energy Trading function through the provision of data and analysis and on-the-job training.

Key duties and accountabilities will include:

  • Undertaking analytical and quantitative activities of the wholesale energy markets
  • Developing ad hoc optimisation models to support cross-business unit analyses and decisions
  • Preparing presentations of analytical and market outcomes
  • Learning and supporting the development of software tools used in the Analysis team
  • Building and maintaining networks within Markets and other business units
  • Building existing tasks and analyses in our new cloud technology environment

What we're looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative disciplines e.g Data Analytics, Engineering and/or Data Science 
  • Experience in data analysis, modeling, machine learning and optimisation techniques
  • Experience with cloud technologies eg AWS, Redshift, Airflow, Talend
  • Experience with data modeling & visualisation tools eg SQL, Python, R, Tableau
  • Conceptual thinker able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Natural curiosity and self-starter
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, with proven advanced Excel skills
  • Strong team ethos but ability to work autonomously
