About the placement

This internship is with ICG Construction Group and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.

As a structural or civil engineering intern at ICG Construction Group, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on-site with the team in Wagga Wagga. You will gain exposure to the role of an engineer in the commercial construction industry and work on medium sized construction projects as part of your internship. You’ll be paired up with an Engineer/Project Administrator and be responsible for supporting the project team in the coordination of design, procurement and construction elements on projects to ensure safety, time, cost and environmental objectives are achieved. 

Assisting with the day-to-day activities of delivering construction projects could include managing and distributing project documentation, handling the Request for Information (RFI) process, and preparing subcontract agreements. You will also review subcontractor work on site and ensure construction is in accordance with design and specification requirements, adhere to WHS best practices, and apply your knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: Summer break – ICG Construction is flexible with the start date depending on the right candidate’s availability.
  • Working arrangement: Full Time or Part time for 200 hours on a fixed term contract, with the possibility for further employment for the right candidate
  • Remuneration: $25/hour on a temporary contract with ICG Construction Group
  • Location: Wagga Wagga, NSW – On site. Accommodation self-supported 

Desired capabilities

  • Studying Structural or Civil Engineering,  Construction Management or related qualification
  • Ability to produce reports
  • Exceptional time-management, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, empathy and discretion
  • A growth mindset and a desire to make small improvements every day

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate qualification.
  • A white card (This can be arranged with the successful candidate if they do not already have one).

ICG Wagga Pty Ltd T/A ICG Construction Group is a commercial construction company which has been operating in the Riverina since 2001 working on commercial and industrial projects across retail, education, agriculture, aged care, and community sectors. The group also has plumbing, plastering and steel framing affiliate companies.
