Job Description

The Greater Dandenong City Council is a progressive organization of exceptional character that offers a dynamic and rewarding work environment to approximately 900 employees. We recognize that our staff is vital to the delivery of excellent service to our community and the achievement of our long-term vision. We invest in the development of our people and we strive to be a workplace that is respectful, engaged, accountable, creative, and honest.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as an Asset Planning Graduate Engineer. This position offers a great opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to develop knowledge and experience in the lifecycle planning and management of a great diversity of infrastructure and assets that facilitate the provision of local government services, and to work with other engineers and professionals from other disciplines to ensure the delivery and maintenance of those assets.

The primary objectives of the position are to:

  • Assist with coordination of infrastructure asset planning, implementation, and monitoring of asset maintenance programs.
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of the Unit’s Business Plan.
  • Maintenance of asset information systems and databases.

The required knowledge, skills, experience, and attitudes include:

  • Efficient and effective time management and work prioritization.
  • Ability to write reports and prepare correspondence.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, particularly about Asset Planning and Asset Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the various acts and regulations about the role, including the Local Government Act and other associated regulations, standards, and codes of practice. In particular, the knowledge of design standards and codes of practice requires an understanding of the underlying principles involved as distinct from the practice.
  • Where providing support to the Asset Management Team, an understanding of the long-term goals of the Infrastructure Services & Planning department and appreciation of the goals of the Council is required.

By government or Council requirements, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate evidence of an approved COVID-19 vaccination, including booster injections or an authorized medical exemption.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical), or aptitude testing.

We are a workplace that cares for your health and wellbeing and offers a range of benefits for staff including flexible work options, a friendly team environment, access to learning and development programs, support for staff and their studies, opportunities for promotion and career development, rewards and recognition programs, salary sacrificed childcare (where available), and a vibrant social club.
