Your role

Are you interested in the Accident & Health Industry and learning about the insurance industry and the ins and outs of being a successful Underwriter? Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an entry-level candidate to join their team as an Associate Underwriter. The opportunity is based in their Sydney office. The Associate Underwriter will receive real-time on-the-job training with exposure to the insurance world. Specific responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in developing and building the Accident & Health book of business which includes group insurance products such as Corporate Travel, Group Personal Accident, and Expatriate Medical
  • Working with their lead small business Underwriter to service an existing renewal portfolio with risks spread across Australia
  • Assisting underwriters in data analysis, rating, account assessment, and file documentation
  • Correspond with brokers; follow up for information
  • Attend broker and customer meetings alongside underwriters
  • Create and maintain records both electronically, if required, following established guidelines and processes
  • Working with Underwriters to input data and information into pricing models & underwriting systems
  • Reviewing the information for new and existing policyholders which comes in from their Insurance Brokers
  • Assisting Underwriters in issuing Insurance documentation to Insurance Brokers
  • Engagement with Insurance Brokers on Claims History requests, Renewal Invitations, certificates of Currencies, and Closings along with other queries and requests
  • Working with their Underwriting Technicians to ensure that all new business or renewal quotes, contract changes, and endorsements are processed and managed accurately and timely
  • Support Underwriters in premium handling, monitoring debtors, and following up on closings
  • Preparation of policy documentation in relation to manuscript wording
  • Setting up and finalizing policies in various systems
